In the fall of 2006, Orange County Performing Arts Center welcomed
another platform for musical expression with its addition of the Renée
and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall. This addition places the Orange
County Performing Arts Center as one of the largest and most versatile
arts complexes in the nation. The new concert hall was designed by
internationally renowned architect Cesar Pelli, who worked alongside
Russell Johnson of Artec, one of the world´s foremost acousticians.
The concert hall spans across 260,000 square feet and seats 2,000
in its main hall and 500 in its multi-purpose theater. For this large
scale project, KiboWorks once again partnered with award-winning lighting
design firm, Cline Bettridge Bernstein and SGF Associates for project
coordination. LED lighting was chosen for this project for its ability
to accommodate the complex curves of the architecture while delivering
optimized lighting effects.
KiboWorks meticulously engineered custom designed high output fixtures
tailored for the architecture of the building. Each fixture was less
than a quarter inch in size and emits between 12 and 25 lumens of
light. These fixtures were used to create the elegant 60-foot lobby
chandelier. 250 LEDs housed in diffusers shaped like candlelight pendants
spiraled down from the ceiling of the concert hall lobby, creating
a stunning centerpiece. This project reinforces KiboWorks belief in
engineering and project management flexibilities. With every project,
KiboWorks ensures that the project´s design intent is preserved
without restrictions of technological insufficiencies or lack of flexibilities
to accommodate.
