Visible from Iowa´s State Capital Building and much of Des Moines´ downtown, the Center Street Bridge provides both an intriguing route and a unique destination for pedestrians and bicyclists. With the Center Street Dam just below the deck, the unobstructed views of the city, and the outdoor "room" created by the structural system, users and visitors enjoy a multi-faceted experience throughout their journey.

Lighting of the bridge is designed to promote a safe environment for pedestrian traffic and to mark the bridge in Des Moines night sky. Lighting of the deck is provided by vandal resistant fixtures mounted below steel coves spanning between the railing posts. Creating a virtually continuous line of light over the entire decking area.

KiboWorks supplied several bespoke fixtures for the bridge lighting elements. All the deck lighting for this project required an extremely robust vandal proof lighting fixture. The extremetube LED fixture was developed to be almost indestructible, the tube features a LED pcb and heatsink encased in optically clear silicon and sealed with IP68 connectors and cabling.

Additionally the imaginative glass block central walkway is lit from below to create a glowing surface to mark the center of the bridge, the color of the lighting can be dynamically changed for specific events or varied with the seasons.
