Jenny Holzer created “Du” – her ninth permanent
LED installation in Germany – specifically for the architecture
of the new Talanx Home Office in Hannover. An illuminated text runs
along two narrow LED elements suspended vertically and installed in
the atrium at HDI-Platz 1 – partly in parallel, partly alternating.
The display screens showing the texts and words are approximately
one metre wide and 16.2 and 21.6 metres long. The shorter element
is in each case suspended to the left of the tree as seen from the
entrance and pointing in the direction of the staff dining hall. The
longer screen is located directly opposite the entrance area, centred
above the pool, so that the water creates a mirror effect.
Jenny Holzer (born July 29, 1950, Gallipolis, Ohio) is an American
neo-conceptual artist, based in Hoosick Falls, New York. The main
focus of her work is the delivery of words and ideas in public spaces.
The public dimension is integral to Holzer's work. Her large-scale
installations have included advertising billboards, projections on
buildings and other architectural structures, and illuminated digital
displays.
