Christoff:Finio Architecture crafted an arresting beachfront residence
on the East End of Long Island, New York, with living spaces that
hover above the dunes, The homeowners commissioned artist Jenny Holzer
to create the entrance hall’s wraparound LED installation, which
scrolls texts from several series of her work. This is a house for
people and for art, with many artworks designed directly into the
architecture. This synthesis manifests itself in the entry with one
of Jenny Holzer’s signature text pieces comprised of scrolling
LED panels wrapped around the exterior walls of a mechanical room.
The fins housing the LED lights of Holzer’s work were designed
through collaboration between artist and architect. The partnership
resulted in the seamless inclusion of the piece within the space,
the cohesion of which is maintained whether the work is on or off.
Jenny Holzer (born July 29, 1950, Gallipolis, Ohio) is an American
neo-conceptual artist, based in Hoosick Falls, New York. The main
focus of her work is the delivery of words and ideas in public spaces.
The public dimension is integral to Holzer's work. Her large-scale
installations have included advertising billboards, projections on
buildings and other architectural structures, and illuminated digital
displays.
